  • Three of these works shown at Kult Kafe are part of disassemble (2022-present), a collection exploring “love letters from the machine to humans,” or strange expressions of affection. The process of creation involves ’dismembering’ body parts from pornographic videos found online and reassembling them into a visual composition.

These ‘love letters’ question the personification of artificial intelligence in the public’s eyes as a malevolent being, which stems from a misunderstanding of the technology itself. The machine might ‘see’ (also in colloquial/internet terms: to notice, to admire; ‘I see you’) our data and parts of us that we upload online, but might not be able to interpret it in the ways we do.

Jo aims to explore the disconnect between machine and man, and perhaps between humans themselves, in the current times of increasing online presence and attempts to connect with other humans digitally.
