A Case for Generative Gore, 2021
an talk by Jo Ho

Live on Zoom at Y-Lab’s webinar ‘The Art of A.I.’

  • Jo Ho presents “A Case of Generative Gore” at Y-Lab’s* “The Art of A.I” and is a beginning of something like a manifesto.

To start her artist talk, she gives an artist’s intro, and begins by presenting a “machinic” reading of her artist bio (partially influenced by text generated with GPT2) over ML-produced images of her along with all the slides she’s presented with recently.

Since beginning her artist journey back home in Singapore, she was giving quite a lot of artist’s talks and wanted to question the value of giving such talks and being recognized for a time as an “A.I. artist” by co-creating this talk with machine-learning. She also infused her artist talk with something like a manifesto, describing her budding thoughts at the time to explore “exposing the meat behind the machine”.

    * Y-Lab is an initiative launched in 2020 by National Gallery Singapore to bring the integration of digital technologies into one of the largest museums in Southeast Asia.
