Visual accompaniment to a composition by Bertram Wee.
Duration: 7 minutes 39 seconds

  • Autopsy by Bertram Wee is a visual accompaniment to Wee’s composition that was performed by dBm. As a reaction to Wee’s composition which explores unconventional illustrative scores as well as to the title of the work, Jo experimented with the isolation of body parts that are reconstructed on screen in multiple ways.

Building on her push towards a ‘digital corporeal’ aesthetic, Autopsy by Bertram Wee involves the procedure and examination of dissecting body parts from eyes, lips, teeth, hands, feet, and limbs. These moving images are further investigations for Jo to represent the uncomfortable nature of gazing at our own body parts in unrecognizable ways.

Jo further uses machine learning images in some sections of this video as she has done in previous works to ‘reveal the guts’ behind the machine.
